July 30: Sweet Corn Challenge

Posted: June 20, 2017

Cyclists and runners will set off on their journeys with the July 30 Sweet Corn Challenge at routes 303 and 176 in Richfield. Cyclists will take 10-, 25-, 50- or 100-mile courses. The 100-milers will pick up their packets and take off after a 6:45 a.m. sign-in. They will be given a sandwich along the way and a chicken dinner at the end. The 25- and 50-mile cyclists pick up their packets and pedal off after their 7:15-8:30 a.m. sign-in. The 50-mile route has more challenging hills and optional add-ons for the “lean and mean.”

The 10-mile family route, led by a motorcycle team, leaves at 10 a.m. Children under age 8 must ride on tandem, in a trailer or with a Trail-A-Bike attachment, accompanied by an adult over age 18.

The 5-K takes runners and walkers through park trails at their own pace. Participants register between 8:30-9:30 a.m.

A pulled-pork/sweet corn lunch and a lively band, Celtic Rush, await participants’ return between 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Eddy’s Bike Shop will give away a specialized bike, and Vertical Runner will offer prizes.

All cyclists must wear CSPC-certified helmets. Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital will provide medical services at all water/snack stops.
