Sept. 14, 21, 28 & Oct. 5,12: Genealogy classes

Posted: August 30, 2017

The Richfield Historical Society will offer a six-week session of genealogy classes at its museum, 3907 Broadview Rd., from 7:30-9 p.m. on Sept. 7, 14, 21, 28, and Oct. 5, 12.

Classes will be taught by Paul Morehouse, retired from Akron City Schools and the University of Akron history department. He is past president of the Ohio Genealogical Society.

Classes are free for Richfield Historical Society members or children of RHS members and $5 for non-members. Reservations are required and can be made in person at the museum (open Tuesdays from 9 a.m.-noon) or by calling the museum at 330-659-0336.

Minimum age to participate is 15. If a mini-family history has been produced in grade school or middle school, it should be brought to the classes.

It will help if attendees bring personal and family information, such as data about births and deaths.

Following these classes, Morehouse will help Richfielders wishing to join the inaugural class of Pioneer Families of Richfield. Individuals who can prove their descent from settlers who lived in Richfield before 1830 will be eligible to apply for this new lineage society.
