Sept. 17: TakeMeBack Series

Posted: August 30, 2017

As part of the Richfield Historical Society’s TakeMeBack Series, John Fazio will present “Causes of the Civil War” on Sunday, Sept 17, at 2 p.m. at the Historical Museum of Richfield, 3907 Broadview Rd. The speaker will argue that slavery, more than any other single factor, caused the Civil War, but the conflict had several dimensions of causation. Other elements were political failure, the social factor, as well as economic rivalry and hatred between the North and the South, especially between the ruling classes in each region: Northern manufacturers and Southern planters.

Fazio teaches Civil War history at the Chautauqua Institution and frequently speaks about the war and other subjects before roundtables and other kinds of groups. He also has written and published numerous articles on the war and other topics. Call 330-659-4750 for additional information.
