Feb. 17: Native plants program

Posted: January 31, 2018

The Twinsburg Garden Club Educational Series and Twinsburg Parks and Recreation, in collaboration with the Twinsburg Public Library, will host a special event on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2-5 p.m. at the Twinsburg Public Library. The program, “Native Plants: Getting Back to Our Roots” is open to the public.

Sonia Bingham, co-owner of Native Roots, a native plant nursery in Richfield, will share ideas to help return your backyard to nature. Bingham is a professional wetland biologist, with degrees from Hiram College and Ohio State University. She has about 20 years experience in wetland and aquatic ecology. Her presentation will introduce important native plant species, key benefits of native plants in the home garden, and the challenges we face in bringing them back into our landscape. Bingham and her sister, Jennifer Johnson, along with Andrew Bishop, Native Roots’ restoration ecologist, have extensive knowledge of best practices in the greenhouse and landscaping industries. The Native Roots team can provide consultation regarding environmental concerns, restoration planning and chemical engineering to homeowners and businesses.

Stanley Stine, Twinsburg naturalist, and Marsha Carston, a TGC member with extensive native plant knowledge, will  be on hand to answer questions and share ideas about native plants and pollinators.

Registration is requested. Call the library at 330-425-4268, ext. 2, or visit the library’s online events calendar. For further information, contact Sue Davis at 330-687-7818 or Master Gardener Volunteers are eligible for 2 CEUs for this event.

The next program in the Twinsburg Garden Club Educational Series will be “Garden with a Purpose,” scheduled for Saturday, April 28.
