Posted: February 19, 2018

The Spotlights Theater presents the first in its Theater for Young Audiences series, “James and the Giant Peach,” directed by Spotlights Education Director Tim Anderson. Supported by a grant from Cuyahoga Arts and Culture, TYA strives to present quality shows that will introduce children and families to the wonders of live theater.

Show dates are Saturday, March 17 and 24, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., and Sunday, March 18 and 25, at 2 p.m. All shows will be at the Broadview Heights Cultural Arts Building, 9543 Broadview Rd., Building 22, behind the police station.

“James and the Giant Peach,” written by Timothy Allen McDonald and adapted from the novel by Roald Dahl, with music by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, tells the story of young James, who is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree. He soon discovers a magic potion and finds himself in the center of a giant peach among human-sized insects with equally oversized personalities. After the peach falls from the tree and rolls into the ocean, the group faces hunger, sharks and many disagreements. But thanks to James’ creative thinking, the residents learn to live and work together as a family.
