MetroHealth Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy office opens in Broadview Heights

In late January, the MetroHealth Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy office opened its doors in an Eagle Valley Court building, which is also home to the Cleveland Sports Institute.

MetroHealth Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President Michael Stern said location played a key role in selecting the Broadview Heights spot.

“It’s real simple,” said Stern, who lives in Brecksville. “Honestly, we know the patients want to receive their care closer to home in their communities, and this is incredibly convenient. We realized there was a need for these services in the southern part of Cuyahoga County.

“For example, our patients at the Brecksville Health Center who were referred to physical therapy or sports medicine services can now just go basically a mile down the road to their appointment.”

MetroHealth’s Brecksville Health & Surgery Center, located off Interstate 77 and Route 82, opened in 2016 to offer primary care, orthopedics, pain management, neurology, outpatient surgery and an emergency department.

Stern said the idea all along was to add a sports medicine and physical therapy services component in the area.

“That was one of the things that was in the back of our mind,” he said. “The feedback we’ve received from our physicians, employees and patients showed an absolute need for sports medicine and rehab services.

“Considering the Cleveland Sports Institute already has the amenities for our patients, it was really a great partnership from what they do and what we’re now doing.”

Led by Dr. Heather A. Rainey, the MetroHealth Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy office, an extension of MetroHealth’s Rehabilitation Institute, provides treatment of illness and injury to the musculoskeletal system in athletes and non-athletes.

In addition, the facility treats adults and children age 8 and older suffering from orthopedic injuries, bone and joint conditions, back and neck pain, industrial injuries and sports-related issues. The latter includes ankle, knee, hip, shoulder, elbow and hand injuries, as well as sports-related spine injuries and concussions.

Regarding youth injuries, Stern said the increased participation of travel sports programs has made the sports medicine and physical therapy office vital to the community.

“Obviously, there are a lot of sports teams down there in the Broadview Heights and Brecksville area,” Stern said. “Sports medicine is definitely something that continues to grow in the region, as well as nationally.

“So now instead of having patients and families in Brecksville and Broadview Heights going to Parma or the main campus, we’re giving them the ability to be five or 10 minutes from their house.”

The office is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m.-7 p.m. For more information, call 216-957-7678 or visit metrohealth.org/locations/broadview-heights-sports-med.
