Twinsburg Fitness Center marked its 20th birthday on March 5, taking the opportunity to dedicate the new “training zone,” a 5,000-square-foot turf area that includes York lifting platforms, Hammer Strength HD lifting racks, power racks, a Tank push sled, HIIT incline training mills, a tire flip and other specialized equipment.
The training zone came to fruition last fall, thanks to sponsor Kent State Regional Academic Center, according to a press release issued by the city of Twinsburg Parks and Recreation Department. As part of the sponsorship, current students and faculty at the KSU Twinsburg location receive a membership to the facility, expanding TFC membership to more than 6,000.
The fitness center, which opened in 1999, hosts a variety of community events, including the Turkey Trot, Winter Wonderland, after prom, athletic tournaments, choir concerts, Twinsburg High School physics cardboard boat races, conference diving championships and U.S. Army training.
“On any given day, you’ll find a wide variety of individuals and families using the facility,” TFC Manager T.L. Thogmartin, said in the press release. “Whether it’s parents dropping off their children at Kid Park while they complete a quick workout or our active senior population stopping in for a SilverSneakers class, there is really something for everyone. Some of our most recent upgrades and changes include 24/7 access, bundle memberships with the water park, the Burg Café and a turf training zone.”
Planned upgrades include new cardio equipment, such as Precor spin bikes, StairMasters, Star Trac treadmills, versa striders and cross trainers in addition to Octane XT – One elliptical trainers. Troy dumbbells will also be replacing existing sets.
On the aquatics side, TFC will be adding floating yoga mats for their 326,000-gallon indoor pool. The mats will be used for a variety of new classes to be announced soon.
