Oct. 15 trustees meeting

Sagamore Hills Police Chief David Hayes introduced Mark Flynn to the trustees and swore him in as the township’s newest part-time police officer.

According to the police chief, Flynn has a master’s degree from Walden University. He has worked “numerous years” on the Cleveland Rapid Transit Authority Police Department, and he is currently employed as a full-time officer for the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department.

Hayes said Flynn will undergo field training hours with Sagamore Hills Police and then be utilized to help fill the department’s needs.

“We use part-time officers to supplement our full-time officers,” Hayes said. “We don’t routinely schedule them. We use them as needed.”

In other business, trustees agreed to condemn the residential property at 708 Rehwinkle Rd. The vote comes following a public hearing on the topic. According to Trustee Paul Schweikert, the homeowner had many opportunities to address deficiencies with the home before it reached this point.

“He hasn’t attended any hearings,” Schweikert said.

He said the decision might land in the court system, but he expects the courts to uphold the township’s ruling.

The fate of the home at 583 McNeil Dr. is still up in the air. According to Schweikert, the homeowner is working on making the necessary improvements. Trustees have, therefore, granted an abeyance while the work continues.
