Akron Municipal Court adds Bath resident as visiting magistrate

The Akron Municipal Court appointed Bath resident Jennifer D. Towell to serve as a visiting magistrate on Sept. 4. Administrative/presiding Judge Jon Oldham administered her oath of office.

Towell started her legal career as a judge advocate general lieutenant in the Washington, D.C., Navy Yard Naval Legal Services Office, where she was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and a Navy Pistol Sharpshooter Ribbon.

She also worked as the director of e-discovery affairs for Applied Discovery, a division of LexisNexis. She developed regional strategic initiatives to maximize corporate, law firm and government organization partnerships and industry relationships across the country.

Before joining Applied Discovery, Towell was an attorney with Brouse McDowell in Akron, where she specialized in litigation at the trial and appellate level, focusing on complex litigation, insurance recovery actions, product liability actions and class action defense.

Towell serves on the Victory Gallop board of trustees. She created a Special Needs PTA Committee for the Revere Local School District. She has volunteered with community organizations such as the Akron Art Museum, the Junior League of Akron and United Disability Services. For the past five years, she has coordinated Akron Area Buddy Up Tennis, a program for children with Down syndrome.

Towell received her bachelor’s degree from Miami University (Ohio) and her juris doctorate from Ohio State University College of Law. She is licensed to practice in Colorado, Ohio and before the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio.

Towell and her husband have three children.
