For the past eight years, in the third week of January, a team from the Greater Cleveland area has traveled to Fort Myers, Fla., for an age 50 and over baseball tournament, the Bob Wagner Wooden Bat Classic.  

Teams from around the country participate, playing seven games from Monday to Friday. The top four make the playoffs and play semifinal and final games on Saturday. 

This year, the Cleveland Indians won the championship. Three of the players on the team reside in Brecksville: manager Rich ArmbrusterMike Lee and Dave Deran.

Alexander Kovac has been named to the president’s list at Kent State University at Geauga and Twinsburg Academic Center. Megan Costanzo has been named to the president’s list and the dean’s list at Youngstown State University.
