Trustee’s corner

I hope our November news update finds you enjoying autumn and ready for the holiday season.

The Comprehensive Plan Audit Steering Committee will soon take shape as a number of residents have volunteered to serve in this capacity. The trustees are in the process of reviewing applications in order to select a diverse group representing a broad section of our community. The comprehensive plan audit will begin with a review of the existing plan to understand key issues and opportunities. The resident steering committee, which will be supported by professional planners, will engage the public through workshops to solicit community feedback on elements needing updating. Any recommendations will be presented to all stakeholders to prioritize next steps for implementation. Our goal is to ensure that the comprehensive plan represents the desires of the community while providing a clear vision for the future.

While driving down Center Road, you may have noticed the work being done at Maple Hill Cemetery. The old stone retaining wall was becoming compromised due to a variety of aging factors and posed a risk of collapse. The trustees investigated different options and chose to install a locking retaining wall with an improved footer. Knowing the original stones are a part of Hinckley’s history, our road department has saved those stones for future projects in the community. The trustees are currently exploring methods of visually “aging” the new wall.

This will be my final update as your trustee and I want to share how incredibly honored I’ve been to work with you and serve our community. Over the past several years, I have gained a great deal of respect for the passion of our residents, the dedication of our departments and boards and the commitment of the entire team in Hinckley Township.

Thank you for your support and many well wishes.
