New ice cream shop debuts on Route 82

Community members have another frozen treat option now that Ebony’s Ice Cream has opened at 115. E. Aurora Rd. in Northfield.

Owner Ebony Turner said this is her first business, and she wanted to open the shop because of her love of ice cream. Her grandmother had her own recipes for unique ice cream flavors, and Turner hopes to bring the same taste to Ebony’s.

“My cookies and cream is like no one else,” she said.

Aside from cookies and cream, the set menu includes strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, salted caramel, butter pecan and mint cookies. The shop offers milkshakes, root beer floats and ice cream cake pops.

Turner said the shop will also have rotating seasonal flavors. For spring, this includes mini-eggs, which are similar to Cadbury crème candy eggs, only with ice cream. The ice cream is made with fresh, local ingredients, according to Turner, and she plans to make small batches once or twice a week.

The space formerly housed a consignment shop, which Turner renovated after taking over the building in June of last year.

Ebony’s is just a few doors down from Rosati’s Frozen Custard, but that doesn’t worry Turner. “I look at it as a custard versus ice cream option,” she said. “It depends on what you want.”

Turner chose to open on E. Aurora Road because she frequents the area and would be close to her children at the family home in Twinsburg. The family ties run deep as her husband, niece and sister worked at the grand opening, scooping ice cream for the new customers.

“I hope to have a successful journey here and bring friends and family together,” said Turner. “I want to get to know the community.”

Spring hours for Ebony’s Ice Cream are Monday through Friday from 3-8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12-8 p.m. The shop will have extended hours starting in the summer. ∞
