Scout troop celebrates fourth anniversay
Scouts BSA Troop 652G, sponsored by St. Basil the Great Catholic Church in Brecksville, recently celebrated its fourth anniversary.
Troop 652G was established in 2019 when the Boy Scouts of America began welcoming girls to the Scouts BSA program. The troop was founded with six girls and has grown to 14 girls in the years since.
The troop has been busy learning, leading and growing the past four years. In 2019, the troop attended its first BSA summer resident camp with brother troop, Troop 652B, at Manatoc Scout Reservation in Peninsula. The girls earned merit badges, completed rank requirements, honed leadership skills and enjoyed everything that summer camp had to offer.
Over the years, the troop has attended weekend camporees to do archery, riflery, shotgun and shooting sports. The girls also have participated in winter klondike races and trained in ATV riding.
Most recently, the troop participated in an overnight experience at The Wilds in October, where they learned about conservation efforts for the Eastern Hellbender salamander and met wild animals including bison, zebras and cheetah.
The troop is looking forward to attending its next camporee at Beaumont where they will get to try the Sizzler zipline and meet Canadian Scouts. They are also preparing to attend summer camp again at Manatoc to celebrate the camp’s 100th anniversary.
In 2022, Troop 652G was proud to award and recognize their first Eagle Scout, Molly Dubistky. It was a special moment for Dubitsky and her family, as she and her younger brother, Matthew, earned the rank of Eagle at the same time. They are the first brother/sister siblings to earn Eagle in Brecksville.
Troop 652G welcomes visitors and new members to the unit year-round. Learn more about BSA Troop 652G at girls.troop652bsa.org. ∞
