The City Manager’s Desk – Thomas Sheridan

There’s nothing better than summertime in Hudson. And there’s no better way to enjoy the summer than by attending the many Hudson events, from live music on the weekends in First and Main and on the Hudson Bandstand Green to the Farmers Market every Saturday morning, Art on the Green, the Hudson Biergarten and the final Screen on the Green movie event. Come out and enjoy a bite to eat at one of our great local restaurants, shop our unique stores and patronize our other fine businesses. There are events and activities for the whole family. For a list of special events, visit hudson.oh.us/events.

If you want to enjoy the outdoors, take a bike ride, jog or hike our many beautiful trails that wind their way throughout the community. Our Sidewalk and Trail Master Plan is halfway complete. The project is on time and under budget. Try out the new trail from Cascade Park to Barlow Road along the beautiful Ellsworth Golf Course.

While the weather’s warm, take the family out to explore our more than 1,100 acres of parks for fishing, kayaking, playgrounds, pickleball, tennis, soccer, baseball and more. Bring a picnic basket and sit by Hudson Springs Park lake and enjoy the lake views and maybe see a neighbor or two.

Our Hudson students will be heading back to school at the end of this month which means school buses will be back on the roads and children will be walking to and from school. The safety and wellness of our children is a primary concern of ours in the city. Motorists please be alert and cautious when driving during school hours and always stop for the school buses when the red lights are flashing. Please use caution when driving around parked cars, particularly in school drop-off areas. And, most importantly, do not speed through school zones and obey the posted speed limit signs. For more information and a video on school bus safety, visit hudson.oh.us/bussafety.

Speaking of safety, are you signed up for our emergency communications should an important issue occur in Hudson? Be sure to sign up for our CODE RED emergency warning system and our E-News for urgent announcements. For a list of our emergency communications platforms, visit hudson.oh.us/emergencyalerts.

I wish everyone a safe and happy summer! I wish all our students a great start to the new school year, filled with new learning, new friendships and new memories. ∞
