Brecksville-Broadview Heights Alumni Association
The BBHHSAA spent this past summer working on the display cases at the high school. Last year, the organizaton was able to share its many activities with the students as well as the public at the request of Kevin Jakub, Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School principal.
This year, Jakub has extended the association’s input into cases throughout the building and members want the students and public to know they are participants in our schools and community, including: the Brecksville Memorial Day Parade; the annual alumni weekend featuring the golf outing, reunion and two pancake breakfasts; the Oct. 6 Gallery of Achievement, tailgate and Alumni pep band, the Use2Bees. The association also provides a $500 scholarship every year to a qualifying graduate bound for college or a trade school.
The BBHHSAA’s goal this year, under the leadership of Veta Gross Groth ’66, is to expand its displays to include historical and informational topics. The organization’s historical research with both the Broadview Heights Historical Society and the Brecksville Historical Association, as well as the public library, has provided a wealth of information on the association’s foundings, early schools and historical figures who helped develop our two communities. Many of these individuals have streets named after them.
The BBHHSAA continues to request memorabilia loans or donations to be viewed throughout the year to renew memories or encourage young adults to save those precious items for the next generation of Bees. The association will safeguard those souvenirs for others to enjoy. ∞
