Bath remembers Penny Marquette

Former Bath Township Fiscal Officer Dr. Roberta “Penny” Marquette passed away Oct. 31. Penny held a master’s degree and doctorate in accounting and was an accounting professor at the University of Akron for 25 years, teaching and mentoring students at all levels.

Penny served as the fiscal officer from 2004 to 2008, choosing not to seek re-election. She brought a high level of expertise and professionalism to the office.

During her four years of service, she spearheaded several major projects including the creation of the township’s records retention policy, creating the external audit committee comprised of Bath residents and business owners, and navigated the monumental transition to a new financial software. After her term as fiscal officer ended, Penny voluntarily spent several months training her successor, refusing to be paid.

A master gardener, Penny was very involved in the Bath Township community, loved nature and the Bath parks. She will be greatly missed by her friends and colleagues. ∞
