Chippewa Garden Club

The Chippewa Garden Club invites the community to celebrate its 75th anniversary during its National Garden Club Standard Flower Show, “Glimmer and Shimmer in the Garden,” on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 1-5 p.m., and on Sunday, Aug. 11, from noon-3 p.m.

The free event will be held at the Brecksville Community Center, 1 Community Dr., in Brecksville.

A design division, including petite, monochromatic, illuminary and creative designs, will be on display, featuring 24 entries created by CGC members. The event’s horticulture division will contain 43 classes, from greenery to bulbs to combination plantings to houseplants and perennials, which came from members’ own gardens. As part of the botanical arts division of the competition, members decorate a shoe, a champagne glass or a package with flowers, while the photography division gives members the opportunity to capture the outdoor landscape and foliage in print. Lastly, an educational division will showcase the history of the club and some of its involvement in the community.

A panel of NGC-accredited flower show judges will judge all the entries prior to the opening of the flower show and awards will be given in each class and division.

The flower show highlights  CGC’s mission: “To share a love for gardening, to study the fine art of flower design, to aid in the protection of native plants and wildlife, and to encourage civic betterment.”
