Towpath Trail openings, closures announced
Cuyahoga Valley National Park is making progress on a riverbank stabilization project funded by the Great American Outdoors Act that is stabilizing the banks of the Cuyahoga River. Erosion threatens the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail and the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad tracks.
Contractors have completed work in Brecksville, north of the Station Road Bridge Trailhead, and will be moving to the next site, south of Station Road Bridge. The Towpath Trail heading north from Station Road Bridge is open.
An approximately half-mile section of the Towpath Trail south of Station Road will be closed weekdays until Aug. 2. The trail section will be open weekends from 6 p.m. Fridays until 5 a.m. on Mondays. No detour is available.
CVNP also has closed the Lock 29 parking lot and river access in Peninsula until Dec. 1, while a contractor completes riverbank stabilization work there. Parking will be available at other nearby locations, and visitors will still have access to the Towpath Trail and amenities in the village of Peninsula. ∞
