June 24 township trustees meeting
Bath Township trustees accepted a barn quilt donation from the Bath Township Historical Society to be hung on the historic Town Hall tool barn facing W. Bath Road.
The dahlia sunburst quilt design was created by an Amish craftsman. Photo submitted.
Trustee Elaina Goodrich said Amish craftsman Gary Hershberger from Shipshewana, Indiana, painted the quilt design, called “dahlia sunburst.” The quilt is a four-foot square on 3/8-inch plywood and painted with semigloss exterior paint.
Interim Parks Director Caine Collins reported the department is advertising for bids to renovate a North Fork Preserve house. “I’m excited to be moving forward with this,” said Trustee Sharon Troike.
Police
The police department purchased $8,109 worth of ammunition from Kiesler Police Supply. Police Chief/Township Administrator Vito Sinopoli said officers are transitioning to using new 9mm pistols, but the department still has 40-caliber ammunition on hand.
Trustees hired two part-time communication specialists for the police department: Alex Rendziak at $24.69 per hour and Tristan Lajko at $28.62 per hour. Rendziak is a University of Akron student with aspirations of having a law career, and Lajko has worked 14 years as a communications specialist, which Sinopoli said is the reason for his higher pay rate.
Trustees voted to amend the township’s organizational resolution to increase the pay for part-time communication specialists: 50 cents more per hour for second shift workers (3-11 p.m.) and 75 cents more per hour for third shift workers (11 p.m.-7 a.m.). Sinopoli said the raises evolved from discussions with full-time communication specialists, who rely on part-timers to fill in for them. Bath already raised full-time specialist rates, and Sinopoli said it was appropriate to do the same for part-time employees. ∞
