Mayor’s Corner by Mayor Michael Wheeler
I hope everyone is enjoying this mild summer. Community Days are here again. We will hold the Community Day parade on Friday, Aug. 9. We will assemble behind Village Hall starting at 6 p.m. and step off promptly at 6:30 p.m. The parade will end at Richfield Woods as usual. Please stay at the park for a while after the parade for food, drink and live entertainment by the Swizzlesticks. On Saturday, Aug. 10, the Amvets and Meridian Sun Lodge will hold their annual steak fry. Community Day is Sunday, Aug. 11 starting at 1 p.m. From opening until dusk, fun games, food and drink, live entertainment, the train, and the Rocket Car will fill the day. Fireworks begin near 9:30 p.m., capping the evening.
I want to recognize the emergency forces who contributed to the positive outcome of a structure fire at 5255 Hawkins Rd. Dispatcher Nicole Keserich provided pertinent information to our first responders. This allowed police officers Sgt. Bart Randolph, Shelby Noffsinger and Robert Moderwell to arrive on scene first and provide updated information. This allowed fire medics Kyle Janis, Danny Pierce and Steve Morabito to quickly facilitate the line. Lt. Anthony Katzakis responded to the station from home and brought the tanker. Chief George Seifert and Assistant Chief Michael Lester both responded from home to contribute to the incident command structure. We are blessed and privileged to have such talented and dedicated people as first responders. ∞
