The City Manager’s Desk – Thomas Sheridan

As our children head back to school this month, it’s important to keep an eye out for kids crossing streets, waiting at bus stops and biking to school. Staying alert, understanding traffic laws and being mindful of children boarding or exiting buses are essential for their safety this school year.

To enhance safety, we’ve installed several flashing crosswalks around schools. When you see these flashing lights activated, yield to pedestrians using the crosswalk to allow them to cross safely. For more details on school bus safety and flashing crosswalks, visit hudson.oh.us/schoolbussafety and hudson.oh.us/crosswalksafety.

The Hudson Police Department now offers SAFER Hudson, a service benefiting senior citizens and residents with medical disabilities. This initiative ensures effective and secure responses from first responders with knowledge of residents’ medical conditions. Learn more at hudson.oh.us/saferhudson.

Gov. Mike DeWine recently signed the state appropriations budget bill, which includes grant funding for three important Hudson projects. We want to thank state Sen. Kristina Roegner and state Rep. Casey Weinstein for their support in securing funding for these initiatives:

  • $62,700 for the “”Hudson ADA Kayak Ramp/Dock” (Capital Budget/Dept. Natural Resources);
  • $250,000 for  “Boston Mills Trail Improvements” (Capital Budget/Dept. Natural Resources);
  • $680,000 for the “Hudson Inclusive Playground” (One Time Strategic Community Investment Fund/Office of Budget and Management).

Stay tuned for updates on each project’s progress.

Lastly, don’t miss out on the exciting events happening in downtown Hudson in August. From the Bandstand Concerts and Summer Music Nights to favorites like the Hudson-Landsberg Biergarten and Art on the JoAnn Green, August promises plenty of fun for the entire family. Wishing everyone a safe and happy school year! ∞
