Document shredding event returns on Sept. 14; pantry items needed

Shred Your Documents Day for Brecksville residents and businesses returns on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m.-noon at the Brecksville Municipal Parking Lot adjacent to the fire station and service department compound on Brecksville Road.

The event provides Brecksville residents with the opportunity to securely shred confidential documents that should not go in the trash.

Because participants typically want to utilize the service at 9 a.m. sharp,  it is suggested that those wishing to utilize the services arrive later that morning to avoid the line and save time.

The city asks that everyone who attends to bring a voluntary contribution of canned goods for the Brecksville Pantry, which supplies food monthly to low-income families. The pantry is always in need of peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti and sauce, canned vegetables and canned fruit. No varieties of beans are needed. The pantry does, however, need cereal, paper products, bar soap and toothpaste. Gift cards from Heinen’s and Marc’s to purchase meat and orange juice also are greatly appreciated.

The pantry has a strict policy that out of respect for its recipients, outdated food will not be distributed. Guests are asked to check the expiration dates on each item donated to avoid having to discard a significant amount of outdated goods after shredding day. Also, the people who sort the food have discovered opened containers with partially used contents. Please refrain from donating those as well. ∞
