Mathnasium relocates to Avery Road

Mathnasium is a learning center focusing on all aspects of math. It empowers students to achieve their full mathematics potential (need to be attributed or written more objectively … i.e., it aims to …

Mathnasium’s name may sound somewhat familiar, and now their location will be, too. The franchise has recently relocated the Mathnasium of Brecksville to Broadview Heights. The learning center now calls 8181 Avery Road, near the intersection of Avery and Broadview roads, home after serving the community at-large for more than five years.

For parents, the most common question centers around how the Mathnasium program works, who it serves and what grades can participate. According to Kevin Bord, owner of the Broadview Heights Mathnasium, its range is any student in pre-K through college-level.

Parents of younger students are able to sign them up for lessons in an effort to make sure their child is grasping the essential skills to give them confidence as they progress through the school year.  And for older students, the center assists many are struggling with math courses, including geometry and calculus.

Additionally, Mathnasium also signs up high school juniors or seniors in search of refresher courses or additional practice in an effort to ensure optimal scores when taking the SAT, ACT or college entrance exams.

Typically, Mathnasium students come in for one hour twice per week.

“We help kids catch up, keep up or get ahead, depending on their individual needs,” Bord said. “Everything is tailored to the student; and they can also bring their study guides in from class [so instructors are aware of the student’s and the teacher’s goal].

A long explanation. Is it really needed?

Bord said that means students do not necessarily need to be in over their heads to begin to look to Mathnasium to learn and absorb math.

“Anytime is good for a boost to math skills,” he said, noting that the Mathnasium system of learning was developed by its founder over 45 years ago.

“It’s a concept with mental, verbal and tactile elements…making for a well-rounded learning platform. There are many styles in which subjects can be learned, and that is especially true for math. Pie charts and 3-D counting blocks are definitely utilized,” Bord said..

Additionally, Mathnasium offers a free game night the second Sunday of every month for students of all ages – even ones who are no longer in school – to experience some of the fun and interactive ways math can be learned and appreciated.

“That is one of the biggest things we hear from parents after enrolling in the program is the difference in their kids’ grades and confidence, and it really helps their learning ability in general, especially at the three-month mark [of the program],” said Bord.

All lessons are private and conducted on an individual basis and students are given an opportunity to complete similar math problems on their own during the session. The emphasis, Bord said, is always on learning in a “fun, no-stress atmosphere.”

To start the individual’s learning lessons at Mathnasium, a free assessment of a student’s abilities must first be conducted. Is available? For more information or to inquire about assessment timeslots, contact Mathnasium to speak with Bord or the manager on duty at 440-262-5111. ∞
