Hudson Community First expands speaker series

by Judy Stringer

Hudson Community First is building on an outreach campaign that brings speakers from across the county to local schools to educate parents and students on a variety of wellness topics.

Co-director Jennifer Fisher said the “Community of Care” series is an outgrowth of pre-COVID programming primarily aimed at preventing substance abuse among youth. “While drugs and alcohol are still of great concern to parents, the pandemic introduced other issues that relate to the mental well-being of our children,” she said.

Last year, Hudson Community First hosted New York Times bestselling author Lisa Damour and university professor Tim Bono, who spoke about raising compassionate and connected kids as well as helping children leave happier and more fulfilling lives. Beginning this month, HCF is hoping to reach parents of younger children by hosting parenting expert Michelle Icard, clinical psychologist Meghan Barlow and motivational speaker Nathan Harmon, among others.
