Upgrades coming to Bath Center Building

July 22 township trustees meeting

Bath Township trustees approved a $61,408 contract with R2K Contracting for the construction of a new restroom in the lower level of the Bath Center Building.

The restrooms will be across the hall from the Trustee Meeting Room. Currently, the only restroom is on the second floor of the building by the dispatch center. Trustee Elaina Goodrich said the building itself is over 30 years old.

Service Director Caine Collins said the integration of the new restroom into existing plumbing will take a fair amount of work. Construction was slated to begin within a month of the meeting date, and, once started, should be completed in a month, according to Collins.

The service department is also rebidding the service building expansion project. Collins said the township received five bids in the spring but all of them exceed the township’s estimate. The new plan has a simplified foundation and a new estimate.

Trustees approved the sale of the fire department’s 2012 Chevy Tahoe vehicle at the Akron Auto Auction. The Tahoe was the assistant fire chief’s vehicle, but a new car was purchased in February.

Grants and reimbursements

Bath accepted an $11,000 Summit County Community Grant through the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition for work on the second portion of the North Fork Preserve trail. Goodrich said this is a reimbursement grant, effective through August 2025.

The township also applied to receive a reimbursement grant from the Ohio Emergency Management Agency for money spent to prepare for the solar eclipse in April. Township Administrator/Police Chief Vito Sinopoli said the Bath police, fire and service departments ensured safety and easy parking throughout the township during the event, resulting in $1,300-$1,400 spent in wages and benefits. ∞
