North Royalton High School graduate Albert Armin was selected as a recipient of the highly competitive Gilder Lehrman-National History Academy Scholarship last spring, securing him a full scholarship to attend the academy’s esteemed summer program June 30-July 26 at Foxcroft School in Middleburg, Virginia. Armin was among the 90 students chosen from hundreds of applicants across the nation.

The scholarship covered the entire cost of the program, approximately $10,000.

As part of the academy, Armin had the chance to see and learn about seminal documents that shaped American history from subject matter experts and master teachers, as well as gain behind-the-scenes access to historic sites, including historic landmarks in Washington, D.C.; Virginia; Maryland; West Virginia; and Pennsylvania. The program explored extraordinary events and leaders of American history from pre-colonial times to the 21st century, focusing on major themes such as everyday life in the American colonies, the principles of liberty and equality, the divisive debate over slavery, the transformation of the national economy through industrialization and transportation, and the social and cultural impact of the struggle for civil rights.

“Albert’s selection for this prestigious scholarship is a testament to his dedication, academic excellence and love for history,” said North Royalton High School history teacher Marilyn Orseno. “His achievement brings great honor to North Royalton High School and the entire North Royalton community.”

The Goddard School of Broadview Heights recently raised $3,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project as part of its Memorial Day fundraiser. Throughout the week leading up to Memorial Day, students hung photos of military members in their family outside their classrooms and each student created a painting, which their parents were able to take home by donating to the fundraiser.

This donation will be used for WWP’s programs in mental health, career counseling and long-term rehabilitative care for military members.
