Chamber circulating petition for Hometown Heroes banners
by Chris Studor
With the goal of honoring those who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice, the Hinckley Chamber of Commerce has started a petition drive aimed at swaying township officials to change the township’s zoning laws to accommodate the hanging of Hometown Hero banners in the center of the townships.
Such banners typically honor fallen military, police and firefighters.
“Those who have served our country should be honored and you have seen Hometown Hero banners in many other townships and cities, and we would like for Hinckley Township to be among those honoring those who have served,” said Mark Staron, president of the Hinckley Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber is looking for residents willing to sign the petition to demonstrate township support for this issue. Those wishing to support the cause are asked to sign petitions at S & S Heating and Cooling, 1353 Ridge Rd.; Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1605 Center Rd.; Coco Café, 1296 Ridge Rd.; or Hoppy Dudes Brews, 1369 Ridge Rd.
“In addition, we will be appearing before either the township zoning commission or zoning board of appeals in the very near future to ask for a change to township laws which currently [prohibit] the hanging of such banners,” said Staron. “We also ask that you attend these meetings to show your support as well. Please refer to the township website for meeting dates and times where the chamber will appear on the agenda before zoning commission and/or the zoning board of appeals.” ∞
