Crown Point holds ‘Tast of Earth’ fundraiser

On Aug. 24, Crown Point Ecology Center hosted its 26th annual “Taste of Earth” gala and auction. The theme for this year’s fundraiser was “BBQ, Bourbon and Bling: The Wild Wine West.”

Crown Point hosted over 220 guests donning their best cowboy/cowgirl chic outfits as they enjoyed themed cocktails, delicious hors d’oeuvres and plated dinner, and the “Triple B Ranch” decorations that transformed the property. The 1910 century barn was converted into a silent auction space offering dozens of items up for bid.

The evening culminated with the premier live auction including special items such as a ride for two on the Goodyear Blimp, compliments of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company; exclusive in-home wine and bourbon tasting experiences; farm to table dinners; and an “instant wine cellar” full of 80+ bottles of superb wines.

Each year, Taste of Earth raises a significant portion of Crown Point’s operating budget with 2024 seeing well over $100,000 in net revenue. The event is largely facilitated by the Taste of Earth Committee, a group of more than 20 volunteers who plan the festivities, generate support for the auctions, attain sponsorships and many other tasks.

This year’s Taste of Earth committee chair was Pam Klemm and the honorary chair was the recently retired Ellen Otto. Otto has been the main reason why Taste of Earth has been such a successful event for well over a decade and Crown Point looks forward to carrying on her legacy of hosting successful fundraisers. ∞
