The City Manager’s Desk – Thomas Sheridan

The air is crisp, the leaves are bursting with color, and October in Hudson is packed with fun events you won’t want to miss!

Got old electronics gathering dust? Bring them to Hudson City Hall located at 1140 Terex Rd. on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. for our e-Waste Recycling event. You can drop off laptops, computers, tablets, phones and more. Plus, watch as your old hard drives get shredded right in front of you with the e-Waste mobile shredder! Check out hudson.oh.us/ewasteevent for all the details on what you can recycle.

Celebrate the Hudson Fire Department’s 175th anniversary with us at the Safety Services Open House on Monday, Oct. 14, from 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. This free, family-friendly event will honor the 175-year history of the Fire Department with a brief ceremony thanking all those who have generously served the department and the community.

The event will include fun activities for the whole family, including a coloring contest, meet-and-greet with first responders, fire extinguisher training, a fire safety escape house, an extrication tool demonstration, ice cream with police officers, EMS tours, water safety sessions, live electrical hazard demos and much more. We hope to see you there for a night of fun, learning and community spirit.

Get your rakes ready! Our annual leaf collection program kicks off the week of Oct. 28. Hudson is divided into different quadrants for leaf pickup, so visit hudson.oh.us/leafcollection to find out when your quadrant is scheduled for leaf pickup.

And of course, mark your calendars for Hudson’s Halloween Trick-or-Treat night! It’s happening on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Get all the spooky safety tips by visiting hudson.oh.us/halloween.

October is National Pedestrian Safety Month. With the sun setting earlier, leaves falling and children back in school, the fall is when most pedestrian crashes occur, according to a local regional planning organization. Drivers should be aware that on Halloween evening, there will likely be more pedestrians on the roads and in unexpected places. Families will be trick-or-treating with smaller children who may be unaware of surrounding traffic and quick to dart into the street. Please slow down and be alert for pedestrians throughout school year.

October’s going to be a blast; don’t miss out!  Stay safe everyone! ∞
