Football team shares meal with local firefighters
The Independence Middle School football team took the opportunity to share a meal with the local heroes from the Independence Fire Department in September.
Students enjoyed dinner while engaging in meaningful conversations with the firefighters, who shared thoughts about firefighting and their job. The players were also given a tour of the firehouse and the football captains invited the firefighters to their game on Sept. 11.
“This event emphasized gratitude, community and the importance of service,” said IMS Principal Jamie Vanek. “A big thank you to IFD for their dedication and for fostering connections between our young athletes and those who protect our community every day.”
At the game on Sept. 11, the football players wore a strip of red athletic tape to honor all firefighters. ∞
