Historical society restores Longwood Manor, seeks items for display

Longwood Manor was the home of Col. William Frew Long, the first mayor of the city of Macedonia. It is a Tudor-style three-story structure, located at 1634 East Aurora Rd. in Macedonia. Currently, the first floor is open for tours on the last Sunday of the month through October.

The Longwood Manor Historical Society is working to open the second floor of the manor in time for the 100th celebration of the site in 2026.

The second floor consists of the main bedroom of the colonel and his wife Isabel, a large sitting room, separate bathrooms and closets for the couple, and two guest bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms. Intentions are for the main bedroom and sitting room to be restored as such, and the guest bedrooms to be display areas for Longwood memorabilia and the like.

When the manor closed down after the passing of Col. Long, many items in the house were sold, distributed, given away or disappeared. Some of the property went to Lewis and Dorothy Tedrick, Long’s farm manager and housekeeper, respectively.

If anyone still possesses items or artifacts from Longwood Manor, the Longwood Manor Historical Society would like to borrow them to make copies, take pictures or temporarily put them on display. If you have an item of interest from the manor, contact LMHS President Deb Mikulski at 440-346-9623 through call or text. ∞
