Become a part of Hinckley Township history
by Melissa Martin
In conjunction with Hinckley Township’s bicentennial in 2025, the Hinckley Historical Society is inviting residents, both current and former, to become a permanent part of the township’s legacy by purchasing personalized, engraved pavers. The pavers will be prominently displayed at the Hinckley Historical Society’s Bicentennial Plaza, located at 1634 Center Rd.
Hinckley Historical Society member Melinda Mallari said the fundraising initiative is a contribution to preserving the township’s history, as well as an effort to leave a lasting mark for future generations to admire and appreciate.
Every paver purchased directly supports the Bicentennial Celebration efforts, Mallari said.
The historical society will host a day-long celebration of the township’s 200th birthday on July 19 – the 200th day of 2025. The event will feature a parade, food trucks, a beer/wine garden, entertainment, activities, souvenirs, fireworks and more.
The land purchased in 1795 by Judge Samuel Hinckley officially became a township in 1825.
The community hosted a similar event to celebrate Hinckley’s sesquicentennial (150 years) in 1975. The celebration to mark its centennial (100 years) had to be delayed in 1925 due to World War I.
The pavers being sold will include an inscription, which will enable those who purchase the bricks to honor the community, recognize a family name, remember a loved one, celebrate an important event or occasion or even to add an uplifting message for future generations to read.
Pavers start at a cost of $100 each for a 4-by-8-inch brick with three lines of text and go up to an $500 for an 8-by-8-inch paver that features text and a logo.
To donate to the bicentennial celebration, volunteer to help with planning on the day of the event, or to purchase a paver, sign up to receive information or contact the Historical Society at hinckleyohiohistoricalsociety.com/contact-us. ∞
