Trustee Corner
This past spring, I reached out to Sen. Sherrod Brown about the vacant house at 840 West Highland Rd. This property was acquired by the National Park in March of 1998. The park operated this property as a rental unit until two years ago when it became unlivable after a tree fell on the roof. National Park officials had the house scheduled for tear down, but funding was unavailable. The structure has become a major eye sore and I requested Sen. Brown’s assistance in expediting a resolution.
The good news is that the U.S. Department of the Interior is allocating funding for this location and another 50 structures across the park. In 2025, the National Park will work with contractors to finalize plans and have all documentation ready to begin demolition and restoration in early 2026 and continue through 2028. I am asking for your patience as I continue to work with park personnel on this property.
Parkview Villas on the corner of Route 82 and Carter Road are putting the finishing touches on Phase 1 of the development. One-third has already been leased out. They have begun Phase 2 and with any luck, (weather permitting), they hope to be finished by May of 2025. Phase 3 is next.
A final thought on zoning: please make sure that all campers, RVs and boats are parked parallel to or behind your house for the winter. If you do not have space for these items, off-site storage is an option to pursue. These items may not be stored in front yards for the winter.
Sagamore Park
The Ohio EPA has directed our township to abandon the existing septic system and connect to a sanitary lateral line from the first restroom facility to an existing sanitary manhole located west of the building in Sagamore Hills Park. We put that project out to bid and Nick’s was awarded the job at a low bid of $36,500.
Work will begin this November. What makes this a pricey project is that solid waste material (mounded sand filter) will have to be transported to an EPA-approved solid waste disposal site in the New Philadelphia/Dover, Ohio, area. Hopefully this will answer all questions regarding this project.
Police
Police Chief David Hayes commended Sagamore Hills Officer Robert Patterson for his mutual aid assistance to the Walton Hills PD. In early September, the Walton Hills PD had cuffed a prisoner with outstanding felony warrants through Cobb County, Georgia. The prisoner escaped custody while he was releasing his infant child over to the police. Walton Hills PD set up a perimeter with the assistance of Patterson and other agencies. This tactic helped police to locate the suspect and return him back into custody. Walton Hills Police Chief David Kwiatkowski appreciated the quick response of Patterson and others in capturing this wanted felon.
On behalf of all Sagamore Hills Township employees, we wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! ∞
