Bath introduces text-to-911
Bath Township residents can now text an emergency to 911 if they are unable to call. To text an emergency, enter 911 into the recipient field, type out the emergency, including your address, and press send. Be prepared for a dispatcher to respond.
In order to take advantage of the text option, a person must have a text-capable phone and wireless service plan. Messaging apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger will not work.
Texting is to be used for emergencies only and 911 cannot accept photos or videos. When texting, clear communication is key and residents should avoid using abbreviations, slang or emojis. Messages should be kept short and to the point. Residents should not group text or message multiple recipients.
Texting may be delayed five to ten seconds and is not available in all areas. If unavailable, you’ll receive an automatic reply instructing you to call 911.
If possible, residents are encouraged to call 911 directly as voice calls allow for quicker and more detailed communication, especially if additional information is needed. For non-emergencies, residents are asked to call Bath dispatch at 330-666-3736. ∞
