Treasurer gets contract extension
by Sheldon Ocker
The Revere board of education has extended Treasurer Rick Berdine’s contract through the 2029-30 school year.
Under terms of the new agreement, Berdine will be paid an annual salary of $146,072. He will be eligible for a 2% annual raise or the value of board-approved raises for other district administrators, whichever is greater, beginning Aug. 1, 2026. The board can award Berdine higher raises than specified if it chooses.
Berdine is required to pay 15% of his health insurance premiums (hospital, physician, prescription drugs, vision and dental).
The board will pay the employer share of Berdine’s School Employees Retirement System contributions and his retirement contributions. The district also will pay 3½% of his annual salary into an annuity or custodial account or an eligible deferred compensation plan.
The contract recognizes 13 paid holidays, and Berdine will receive 30 days of vacation per year. He can defer up to 20 vacation days annually to the following year, and he can take the cash value of up to 10 vacation days per year.
He will need board approval to take more than 10 consecutive vacation days, and during vacations, Berdine must be “reasonably available for consultation as required by emergency or unusual circumstances.’’
During the district’s $83 million construction project that ended in 2020 and included a new high school and elementary school, Berdine was instrumental in keeping the venture on track and creating innovative ways to cope with unanticipated costs.
Berdine is also part-time treasurer for Cuyahoga Valley Career Center. The last time he got a contract extension from Revere was 2019.
