United Way of Summit & Medina seeks volunteers to provide free tax prep

United Way of Summit & Medina’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is seeking volunteers for the 2025 tax season. Last year, the program, which provides free income tax preparation services to Summit and Medina County residents, completed 2,453 returns. This year, United Way’s goal is 2,700 completed returns, and as a result, more volunteers are needed.

Since it was launched in 2018, United Way’s VITA program has brought back $17.5 million in state and federal tax refunds to the local community. Last year, United Way’s VITA program saved clients an estimated $613,250.

“Volunteering with VITA has been one of the most rewarding volunteer experiences I have had,” said Bill Lowery, realtor at eXp Realty and member of United Way’s board of directors. “My favorite part is the one-on-one interaction with clients, who always appreciate the free service. New volunteers should not be nervous to sign up. Between the training, expert staff and committed lead volunteers, someone is always there to support you and answer questions.” VITA volunteers receive free IRS-certified training, a choice of volunteer roles and flexible scheduling throughout tax season. No previous tax experience is necessary, and continuing education credits are available for some professionals.
