Brecksville welcomes new health & wellness spa

For Mark and Tracy Knurek, opening Zivel Performance & Recovery, located at 8215 Chippewa Rd., in December was a natural progression for Tracy, who previously worked for a massage therapy studio in Broadview Heights.
The spa, which has a partnership with local businesses OrangeTheory Fitness and Higher Heights Fitness, offers holistic, natural healing treatments.
“Nowadays, it seems that a lot of people suffer from anxiety, depression and stress, and I’ve always been against taking medications that can get addictive,” said Tracy. “So, when I had the opportunity to open a business like this with my husband, it was a perfect fit. This was right down the path that I wanted to go, so we went all in on it – and here we are now in the heart of Brecksville.”
The word zivel refers to the four elements of earth, wind, fire and ice, tying in with available therapies at the business, which includes cryotherapy, dry float, infrared light sauna with or without red light and an oxygen bar. Compression treatments, which can aid with pain or muscle soreness, is also offered.
“Our cryotherapy chamber is good for inflammation or for reducing any kind of stress or depression,” said Tracy Knurek. “When you come out of the chamber, you feel really refreshed, almost as if you hit a reset button. It can also burn up to 600 calories.”
“We also have dry float therapy in which all you do is take your shoes off while getting the same benefits of wet float therapy,” she continued. “It’s good for muscle soreness, sleep disorders, stress and anxiety.”
The infrared light sauna aids in vitamin D and can also aid in removing toxins.
Other services include cryo-facials, cryo-slimming and cryo-toning.
“The cryo-facials are really good for reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and it boosts collagen,” explained Mark Knurek. “The cryo-slimming breaks down the fat cells and they don’t come back. It’s like liposuction without surgery. The treatments are a natural way of restoring yourself.”
The spa, which offers monthly individual and family membership plans, employs the latest technologies.
“The cryochamber is electric versus nitrogen, so it’s completely safe,” explained Mark Knurek. “We also have the dry float bed versus the wet float and the red-light therapies.”
“We bring a whole host of health and wellness options to the community,” he continued. “If you have chronic arthritis or other conditions like that; that’s what our original interest was – in how we could help people improve their lives.”
“We really try to focus on the mental aspect as well,” added Tracy Knurek. “At first, we focused mainly on the physical aspects, but the mental has become more prevalent over time.”
In addition to helping their clients to feel and function better, the Broadview Heights couple wants to provide a comfortable, family atmosphere at their new business.
“When I worked at the massage studio, our clients were like family to us, and that is the kind of atmosphere we want to provide here,” said Tracy Knurek. “We strive to make it a relaxed and happy environment, which is first and foremost for us. We would like to build up our clientele base and make them feel at home; that’s our biggest goal right now.”For information, visit brecksville.zivel.com.
