High school students invited to spring Envirothon
Envirothon, a competitive outdoor team event, offers a unique learning experience for high school students. The 2025 Area 2 Envirothon will be held on April 9, 2025, at the Cooke Family Wildlife Conservation Park, 4774 OH-13, in Shiloh.
The event is designed to stimulate, reinforce and enhance interest in the environment and natural resources. A team consists of five students, all from the same school. An adult advisor(s) must accompany the team but is not allowed to assist during the competition.
Envirothon tests students’ knowledge of soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatic ecology and current environmental issues. The environmental issue for 2025 is “Roots and Resiliency: Fostering Forest Stewardship in a Canopy of Change.” In addition, Envirothon encourages cooperative decision-making and team building. The score that counts at the end of an Envirothon is the team score.
Five area Envirothons are conducted around Ohio each spring. The top four teams from each area competition progress to the Ohio Envirothon in June held in a different part of the state each year. The 2025 State Envirothon will be held at Wilmington College in Clinton County.
The top-scoring team in the Ohio Envirothon is eligible to compete in the National Conservation Foundation Envirothon, hosted by a different state or Canadian province every year. The 2025 National Conservation Foundation Envirothon will be held at Mount Royal University, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on July 20-26, 2025.
