Police Beat

Dec. 12 – Police responded to a Southpointe Parkway residence after the city’s fire department reported that a fire hydrant had been knocked over. Police said there were tire tracks, believed to be from a tractor-trailer, that ran from the grass of the tree lawn and over the fire hydrant. The hydrant, property owners said, did not initially appear to be damaged. However, the damage was discovered upon later inspection. 

Dec. 13 – The 18-year-old driver of a vehicle pulled over for weaving as he drove along Riverview Road was arrested on charges of driving in marked lanes, underage possession of alcohol, endangering children and possession of drug paraphernalia after police discovered he was driving while intoxicated. According to police reports, the driver was found to have a clean driving record, but performed poorly during sobriety tests and was unable to complete them. The man also allegedly urinated on himself in the back of the police car. His friend, a 16-year-old boy who was a passenger in the vehicle at the time, was also found to be drinking uderage. He was arrested on juvenile charges and his parents responded to the station to pick him up. Inside the vehicle, police also located an electronic resin vapor that smelled like marijuana and two alcoholic beverages, one of which was located in the car’s glove box and the other in a snowboard that belonged to the driver. The driver posted a cash bond and was released to the custody of his father.
