High school girls rugby returns to Hudson
Submitted by the Hudson Rugby Club
After a two-year hiatus, Hudson Rugby Club re-established high school girls rugby with a Fall Rugby 7s team and is recruiting players for the Spring 15s season. During the Fall 2024 season, the girls high school Rugby 7s team finished runner-up in the Shield Division in the state tournament. They ended the season 9-10 and were ranked 8th in Ohio. Players came from Hudson High School, Western Reserve Academy, Solon High School, Twinsburg High School and Streetsboro High School.
“Providing young women in our area the opportunity to play a growing sport, especially with the increased attention on rugby since the U.S. Women’s Rugby 7s team won bronze in the Paris Olympics last summer, is thrilling,” said Stefanie Watson, HRC assistant director. “We have experienced players supporting newcomers, fostering camaraderie and inclusion. This collaboration built a competitive team, evident in our nine wins during the first 7s season.” HRC’s girls and boys teams are recruiting players in grades 9-12 with or without rugby experience from Hudson and the surrounding areas.
