Summit County Court of Common Pleas Judge Kathryn Michael sentenced Mahmud Kara to eight years in prison and five years of probation on Feb. 11, after the Hudson resident and former doctor was found guilty of rape and sexual battery late last year. The court also imposed a fine of $10,000.
A Dec. 20 press release from the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office said Kara went to dinner with a young female victim and two others before they returned to his Fox Trace home in April 2024. After everyone left except for Kara and the victim, Kara sexually assaulted her. The release also stated that in 2018 Kara forfeited his medical license after pleading guilty to four felony counts of possessing criminal tools for improperly prescribing weight-loss medications. Kara is currently the owner of KaraMD, a Valley View-based company which offers natural remedies and supplements.
