Feb. 18 city council meeting

Brecksville City Council approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement with Independence for the resurfacing of Brecksville Road from Sprague Road to state Route 82.

The work, part of the second phase of the Brecksville Road resurfacing project, is set to begin in June. The project’s second phase includes replacing the asphalt surface, 2 ¼ inches deep, on the 2 ¼-mile stretch of roadway.

As part of the agreement, Independence will contribute up to $24,000 toward the estimated $4.6 million project, as the resurfacing includes a small portion of Brecksville Rd. at the Sprague Road intersection in Independence.

Brecksville Engineer Gerry Wise said Brecksville will seek bids for the project this spring.

The project’s first phase, which wrapped up in October, included Brecksville Road between Miller Road and the city’s southern border.

The city announced in late 2024 that the project’s third phase, between state Route 82 and Miller Road, has been delayed one year and will begin in 2027 to accommodate construction at Valor Acres.

Wise said the Valor Acres project is behind schedule, and the city wants to wait to resurface the roadway adjacent to the mixed-use development until the majority of the construction is finished.

In other action, council approved:

  • Paying $8,845 to Lee Molnar & Associates Fire Protection Group for the design and reconstruction of the fire department connection at the Human Services Building.
  • Resolutions promoting John A. Chrisopulos to lieutenant and Kenneth A. Septaric to sergeant in the police department.
  • A  resolution authorizing the mayor to apply for an Ohio Department of Public Safety, Division of EMS 2025- 2026 grant.

Paying Southwest Council of Governments $27,500 for annual membership dues for the Southwest Enforcement Bureau and the Southwest Emergency Response Team. Of that amount, $15,000 will come from the police department and $12,500 will be paid by the fire department.
