Bath initiates several personnel moves

March 10 township trustees meeting
March was personnel month for Bath Township administrators and trustees.
Several employee moves were initiated, including hiring Laurie Saunier as a full-time communication specialist (dispatcher), effective March 30 at an hourly salary of $30.
Police and fire dispatcher is a demanding job that often requires a significant period of adjustment. That’s where Saunier is expected to be ahead of the game.
“She comes to us with extensive experience working in a large regional dispatch center,” said Police Chief/Township Administrator Vito Sinopoli. “I think she said 26-plus years of experience … and that is precisely what we need, someone with extensive experience in dispatch.”
Trustees approved Service Director Caine Collins’ request to advertise for service department and parks division seasonal workers. Applications will be accepted until (preferably) six people are hired.
“Seasonal” means that the job lasts for a maximum of 180 days. Applicants should be at least 18 with a high school diploma or a GED and preferably have a driver’s license. Candidates should understand they will be working outdoors.
Collins also has been internally seeking a full-time assistant service director.
“The position of assistant service director has been vacant for several years,” Collins said. “The idea is that the individual would help me with managerial responsibilities.”
Trustees voted to remove full-time paramedic/firefighter Caleb Bower from probationary status as of March 18.
Extending an agreement
Trustees approved the agreement between Bath police and the U.S. Department of the Interior National Park Service to assure mutual emergency assistance between the two entities. The agreement runs for five years unless one or both parties end it.
Planning, zoning
The board approved the request of Planning Director/ Zoning Inspector Bill Funk to extend the contract with Rumpke waste disposal for a fourth (optional) year, which includes a 3.5% increase in cost to the township. The contract is scheduled to expire on June 30, 2026. Tim Franklin was appointed as a regular member of the Bath Board of Zoning Appeals. Franklin will fill a vacancy for a term that expires on July 1. Franklin has served on the township’s appearance review commission for almost 24 years.
