Hinckley’s Bicentennial celebration promises an unforgettable day

Submitted by Vicki Tift, Bicentennial steering committee member

The long-awaited Bicentennial Celebration to mark the 200th anniversary of the community will take place on Saturday, July 19. Planning for this milestone celebration has been underway for two years, and it promises to be an unforgettable day filled with excitement, history and community pride.

The celebration will highlight the town’s rich history, with legacy projects like the Verdin clock and the newly constructed Bicentennial Plaza on the Hinckley Historical Society grounds. The plaza will feature approximately 200 custom engraved bricks purchased by individuals, businesses and organizations, each one commemorating a part of Hinckley’s history.

The celebration festivities will include a wide variety of entertainment, carnival games and live performances by local and regional bands. The entertainment lineup includes Magician Nate the Great, a petting zoo, live buzzards, demonstrations from local organizations and a team of historical re-enactors who will be bringing the past to life. Guests can enjoy an Irish Pub, wine tasting, and an assortment of food from local vendors. The community room will showcase an arts and crafts show, and there will be plenty of activities for all ages, including a touch a truck, show cars, special events at local businesses, a parade and a fireworks show to cap off the evening.
