Hundreds celebrate Buzzard Day and St. Patrick’s Day

Plenty of green could be seen around downtown Hinckley on March 17 as Buzzard Day visitors also celebrated St. Patrick’s Day. Buzzard Day organizers said 1,501 pancake breakfasts were sold.

The sunny, albeit chilly, weather made for pleasant walking between the breakfast and craft fair at Hinckley Elementary and the Buzz Carnival at Town Hall. The O’Malley Irish Dance Academy and Celtic harp player Tiffany Schaefer helped give the festivities an Irish flair.

Outside Town Hall at Brongers Park, Boy Scout Troop 520 assisted adventurous visitors on its rope-tied bridge and tended a welcome campfire. And Medina Raptor Center volunteers brought resident buzzards Matilda and Paris.

A Cleveland Metroparks spotter at the Buzzard Roost in Hinckley Reservation kept track of the returning birds on a scoreboard at the park.
