Hinckley senior named Highland Student of the Year

Highland High School seniors Cecilia Mainzer and Nicholas McFadden were chosen as Students of the Year at Highland.

Mainzer has taken numerous AP, college preparatory and honors classes while holding leadership positions in various groups. She is a Peer Leader, DARE Role Model, a member of the Speech and Debate Team, Sinfonia Orchestra, Academic Challenge, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) and National Honor Society, and is the yearbook editor. She was the recipient of the Magna Cum Laude Award for the National Latin Exam, Homecoming Queen and was selected to represent Ohio at the National 4-H Conference.

Outside of Highland, she is an active member of the Medina County Junior Fair Board, Medina County Fashion and Nutrition Board and the Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council. Throughout her four years, she was an activist and volunteer for Feeding Medina County, served as a camp counselor and at Hinckley Buzzard Day and was a facilitator at the Sister to Sister Conference.

She is the daughter of Doug and Julie Mainzer of Hinckley Township and plans to attend the University of Akron to study engineering.

McFadden is a dedicated member of Student Council, SADD, Sinfonia Orchestra, Speech and Debate Team and YAF. He serves as a senior class officer, Peer Leader, sixth-grade camp counselor and an NHS tutor. McFadden is a standout athlete on Highland’s track and field and football teams.

Outside of school, he serves as a volunteer for the Children’s Center of Medina County, is a member of 4H and has assisted with four Eagle Scout projects. He is the son of Jason and Michelle McFadden of Sharon Township and plans to study financial planning at the University of Akron.
