Community tours new police station and regional dispatch center

The city of Brecksville hosted a grand opening for its new police station – headquarters of the Cuyahoga Valley Emergency Dispatch, part of the regional Chagrin Valley Dispatch – on Sept. 14. The station is at 9020 Brecksville Rd.

The ceremony included a ribbon cutting and the unveiling of a plaque commemorating key figures in the building’s construction. The Brecksville Police Honor Guard presented the colors, and the American flag that had flown outside the former station since its opening on Sept. 26, 1972, was raised outside the new building.

Following the ceremony, community members toured the 23,000-square-foot, $8.5-million station, which features a 12-hour holding facility, a firing range, an interrogation room, an armory, evidence storage, administrative offices, locker rooms, a detective bureau, a K-9 unit, a training room, a sally port and a bay where a vehicle can be examined or held for evidence. The regional dispatch center serves the communities of Brecksville, Independence, Broadview Heights, Seven Hills, Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights, Newburgh Heights, Cuyahoga Heights and Valley View.
