Amphitheater destined to become ‘pillar of events’ at city hall

After last summer’s hiatus due to the pandemic, the Broadview Heights amphitheater is back, better than ever, with a full lineup of activities for residents to enjoy.
The city cut the ribbon on the amphitheater on May 20, 2019 and good times ensued for residents with a variety of activities from concerts to the annual Home Days celebration.
“We got a lot of use out of it, Mayor Sam Alai said.
According to the mayor, the city used the downtime to make upgrades to the entertainment hub. He said they’ve added lighting and speakers, a concrete pad under the stage and poured a concrete pad for seating and a dance floor.
Most recently, he said, restrooms were being built.
The restroom project was made possible through a $100,000 State Capital Budget Grant written by former Broadview Heights economic director Kristine Sorensen.
Alai said the amphitheater will be the “pillar of events” on city hall’s 67-acre campus at 9543 Broadview Road. In addition to free concerts, he said residents can expect outdoor movie nights for the family. The recreation department also plans to offer outdoor exercise classes at the site.
“It’s going to be the hub of activity for Broadview Heights,” Alai said.
There was no Memorial Day parade in 2020 or 2021, but the commemoration will resume in 2022. The mayor said next year the city of Broadview Heights will hold a solemn ceremony at the amphitheater to remember the fallen service men and women of the armed forces. ∞
