Independence Police promotes three officers to sergeants
In mid-July, Mayor Greg Kurtz swore in three Independence police officers as sergeants during a ceremony at city hall.
Sgt. Shane Bates has served the city for 19 years. He has a bachelor’s degree and has worked as a field training officer and taser instructor. Bates has been part of the Human Trafficking Task Force for five years and has served as a K9 handler with partner, Chino.
Sgt. Everett Haworth has been a law enforcement officer for 11 years, and has served Independence for seven. He is a member of the DEA Task Force, where he has been involved in several criminal seizures and high-level investigations. Haworth serves as a field training officer and is on the SWAT team. He is a former Marine with a degree in criminology from The Ohio State University.
Sgt. Scott Sedlock has been a law enforcement officer since 2010 and has worked for Independence for nine years. He is a 2007 Independence High School graduate and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. During his time with the city, he has been a field training officer, firearms instructor, and academy instructor. Sedlock was recently promoted as a team leader of the regional SWAT team. ∞
