Mayors Corner – Mayor Jeffrey L. Anzevino

Voting, our Local Economy & Awareness

The year-end season is upon us, and with that brings cooler weather as well as many upcoming events and holidays. It is my wish, not only for the residents of Hudson but all of our families and friends as well as visitors to our city, that you experience warmth, joy and kindness – not just now, but 365 days.

An event that is right around the corner is the Nov. 7 general election. As citizens of the United States, one of our most important civic responsibilities is utilizing our right to vote and casting our vote for the candidate or the issue that we each feel will best help move us forward as a civilized society. If you need to confirm your voting location, view your sample ballot or obtain other information on the voting process, please visit voteohio.gov.

Locally, there are some new businesses that have opened in Hudson as well as others that have undergone renovations. I would like to collectively congratulate and personally thank these owners and organizations for investing in our business community. I have recently stated that maintaining the charm and small-town feel of our city depends on the health of our local economy and the vibrancy of our downtown area. If we collectively work towards appropriately attracting and then supporting our local businesses, Hudson will continue to flourish while preserving our historic and charming roots. Please visit the Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce for more information at explorehudson.com.

The city of Hudson is also well into the data, analysis and the drafting of our next comprehensive plan that will help shape our future. The steering committee has been hard at work since late last year to engage with residents and solicit your feedback. A draft plan will soon be presented to city council, but you can still find the most recent details and opportunities via the project page on the city’s website. Please visit hudson.oh.us/comprehensiveplan to review the latest information and to remain updated on the most current status.

On a final note, you may have noticed some new flashing lights at some of the crosswalks and intersections that feed pedestrian traffic around our school buildings. These additional Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) are meant to be an extra layer of visibility and notice of caution to motorists, when a pedestrian is attempting to cross an active road. As the city works to expand and increase our connectivity and pedestrian access to our downtown, parks and other amenities, please be alert, aware and cautious when traveling within our city. Much of our pedestrian traffic is often school-aged children either going to or coming from school, not just during normal school hours, but also after-hours for practices, meetings or group discussions.

Information on the many things going on in Hudson, including projects and events, can also be found at the city website by visiting hudson.oh.us. Thank you, Hudson. Be safe, be kind and have a great year-end season. ∞
